A weak to moderate strength Io B storm was recorded at 20.1 and 24.7 Mhz here in Hawaii at my personal observatory (Big Island Radio Observatory or BIRO). Below are two sound files experts from the storm and an associated chart.
The upper (blue) trace on this chart is the 24.7 MHz channel and the lower (red) trace is the 20.1 MHz channel. S bursting is evident as spikes on the chart with only a small number of the spikes being attributable to sweepers or other interference.
Io-B S burst at predominately 24 MHz sound file.
Io-B S bursts at predominately 20.1 MHz sound file.
The antenna was a wire log periodic type. The strongest bursts recorded were only about 7 dB above the galactic background which was measured at roughly 40,000 K.
